I am a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a BFA in Painting and Printmaking and have lived in the pastoral beauty of Highland County for twenty-five years. Sheep are a part of my family’s everyday life and serve as my most current subject not only because of their proximity but because of their universal imagery. They are amusing, peaceful, needy, wandering – so relatable.
I enjoy the process of painting, its struggles. One painting leads to the next with moments that call for reflection on how I arrived to this specific place in the painting. When a painting presents the “push and pull” of old and new ideas; foreground and background, layers competing for attention, I strive to navigate these competing forces, my aim being to neither be stumped nor satisfied. My desire is to build and grow with each work.
